Just writing to let you all know that I'm somewhat here...i suppose.

...you know the feeling when you know you're at an artist's block, yet you feel you need to do something artistically in order to get out of some hellhole job where they would never in 1,000,000 years pay you enough to live off of, let alone what you're worth?

...that's where I'm at.

Which brings me to the reason behind not being on DA, mytoons and any other art site as much as I used to.

All over the place, be it internet or in industry, it's implied that in order to go anywhere, you are to achieve a specific look, be it anime, comic book style, hyper-real, or (ugh)"pixar-esque". (do NOT ask me about that last one, you WILL get a :icontextwallplz: rant on the issue. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED) And if you decide to submit anything outside of that, then everyone will either be grossly criticized or ignored completely.

Now mind you, I don't have any particular grudge against a particular style as long as there's some type of originality in it. I just feel that it isn't really fair to be so closed-minded to believe that if someone does something a certain way, namely the oh-so-despised "American cartoony style", then that's all they're limited to and therefore doomed to be a starving artist for the rest of their days, regardless of their versatility.

In case you're wondering why I'm writing this, I've been haunted by this "critique" a few years ago. I applied for a job as a character designer/animator through this deviant. (No, I will not disclose names.) Supposedly, she was supposed to be some sort of industry professional, but her reaction was anything but professional. Basically, she said 1.)my work sucked 2.)3d animators are becoming a thing of the past because of mocap and 3.) there was no way I would find myself getting in the industry anytime soon...in so many words. Combined with the lack of responses from the numerous jobs in both 2d and 3d I've applied for, aside from scam artists, I...I have no idea anymore. I'ts not like I've given up completely, but it's getting increasingly difficult to do anything creative nowadays for me.

I'm besides myself.

I guess you can call this post a rant, but I'm venting out frustrations. Nothing more, nothing less. Till next time. :shrug:

"pixar-esque" :puke:

"she said 1.)my work sucked" :slap: and :fork: and :slap: that bitch... I'm sure you've improved your skill since then.

2.)"3d animators are becoming a thing of the past because of mocap" (:pee: mocap) depends on where you apply even if 3D animating is becomes a thing of the past, it's not going to be anytime soon, because not every company out there can afford mocap...yet, and so you have to look into expanding your self into other forms of things you wana do in the industry (i.e Special FX) for example.

and 3.) "there was no way I would find myself getting in the industry anytime soon...in so many words." again... :fork::slap::slap::slap::slap: and then :pee: you know that it's hard to get into the "industry" here in Chicago and so you have to look into maybe leaving the city and going else where (i.e Canada)...just my 2 cents, just my 2 cents...keep your chin up and keep working hard and you'll be just fine.

Yeah, I know that it's hard as hell (damned near impossible) to get work over here and yeah, my journey would have to take me outside of the windy city to someplace else. As for everything else, yeah, you're right...after all 3-d is only just a genre. Maya is only a means to an end. My ultimate goal is to be a true jack of all trades above all else.

Art, I honestly don't know why this haunts me as much as it does, but it does. Maybe it's the "industry professional" song and dance that our dear institution :roll: has drilled into our psyche. Maybe it's pride that's ripping me up...which is the same thing that compels me to plot this perfect revenge :evillaugh:, oddly enough... idunno....it's annoying, actually.

Well before I give you war and peace, I think I shall end this reply. Thanks. :)

Jay, you know how I feel about that heifer(especially since her own work wasn't shit, but that's usually the case, right?) and you're the only person in the whole world who actually knows how I feel about the industry.

*sighs* I know that someday soon we're going to have to leave Chicago and search abroad; but that takes a lot of work and loot, plus we still have to get hitched. Easier said than done, move to someplace with work especially since A.) America is in a fucking recession and layoffs are in and B.) Canada doesn't want American animators.
It's not like we're not constantly thinking about this shit and everything else that being poor and black in this country brings. Sorry, when folks say that ol' "Move out of Chicago and go to California(who's economy and job market is in the dumpster),Canada(won't hire Americans), Mars(too hot and no air or working toilets), etc. line it bothers me a bit. We hate Chicago, people! XD</minirant>

We'll make it, we're busting our asses too hard not to....and as long as we have each other nothing can stop us. :heart: :hug: :smooch: :heart:
