One of them (The one that signed both of us on) would send us jobs that would either be automatically filled upon sending or we would get absolutely no response whatsoever, regardless on how aggressive we are about it. There was a job in which I, being that I was in the area anyway, went over to their office to discuss it, was turned away at the front desk as if they were Fort Knox and I was about to rob them of everything they had.
The other one interviewed and signed her on while not even bothering with me. They've sent her a job, to which she has accepted to virtually babysit some corporate halfwits while they cannot make up their mind as to what they wanted. They even provided crayolas.
After hearing of this earlier today, we figured that these staffing firms are a joke. They're run by complete imbeciles and ditzes who don't know the difference between a line and a circle, yet they feel that they know all there is to know about who is a "good fit" for a job.
I'm in pseudo-management (another rant for another day) where I need to make these calls and yeah, I admit it's not easy, but at the same time, I give people a chance. So far, it has worked. (Read: I have not ran someone into a brick wall yet.) So I'm really having trouble with the thought process of these agencies who pull artists who need money, give them these false hopes of a better chance in getting some work for the sole purpose of lining their own wallets by taking cuts of up to 50% for the hard work that the artist has to endure.
The bottom line is this: We're artists. At the end of the day, we have to sell ourselves one way or another. There is no quick fix in doing so, therefore we have to do it ourselves and do it in a way that works for us.
If you have an idea that contradicts mine, I'll be glad to hear it as long as there is some coherent thought to it. Otherwise they will be marked as spam on sight.
Till next time, kids.

But here's another good one, when you go through the interview process you tell them what you know and don't know and all that. So they say that they have a good job for you but they have to run it through their client so they call you back 2 weeks later offering you a job that you had no idea even exsisted let alone know how to do and on top of that it's in the 3rd shift in Northbrook or some other suburb ten light years away.Where Public transprotation does not exsist, and all this after you told them that you dont drive want a job in the city and cant do this or that. GOD i HATE staffing/temp agencies!!!!!!!
sorry, as a guy that is also looking for work i too know how you feel bro.

Out of curiosity, you got any pointers on how we can get our foot in the door without getting it crushed?

So in hindsight, I should have seen this coming...but for some fucked up reason that I don't know about, I gave the creative staffing agencies the benefit of a doubt when I shouldn't have. A fatal flaw which I'll have to rectify.
So did you find anything in the meantime?
